In a nutshell: What is gender diversity?
(Gender) diversity, inclusion, equal opportunities, gender pay gap – all these words show that we are not yet fully living equality. But what does diversity actually mean? Diversity means variety of people. It aims at the recognition and equal rights of all people. As a matter of fact one important dimension of diversity is gender diversity.

Why does gender diversity actually matter?
Let’s make it clear right away: We need more women in founding teams. (Gender) diverse founding teams can benefit from each other through multi-faceted mindsets as well as different experiences and backgrounds. And thus be able to lead their startup more successfully and innovatively.
With ONE MISSION, we not only make this (unconscious) inequality more visible and actively address the key challenges female founders have. But also we want to empower female startup founders and achieve that gender-diverse teams shape the future together.
Tech startups in particular are creating digital and innovative business models that are changing entire industries for good. It is therefore all the more desirable and worthwhile that the startup teams are correspondingly heterogeneous. Only in this way the needs and desires of different target groups can be taken into account and innovations created.
Gender diverse teams lead to success!
A cognitively and demographically diverse team promotes innovation and competitiveness to respond to challenging international markets. Diversity in the team gives startups a better understanding of their own target group. All of this increases a company’s success.
Studies show that diverse perspectives, new views and approaches lead to better business results. And employees who feel valued and safe are healthier and more engaged.
Especially when it comes to culture and background, many startups are already very well positioned. A large proportion of startups are already international at the outset. But in other dimensions, startups still have some catching up to do. In only about 33.5% of startups in Germany is at least one woman represented as a (co-)founder. Especially in the tech sector, women are still strongly underrepresented. There’s still room for improvement!
